The value of visits to historic houses and sites has been dealt with extensively in Module ESHI 304. The curriculum leader is responsible for choosing sites which will enhance the children's learning of history; he or she is also responsible for the preparation and follow up that are essential if the visit is to be worthwhile. Liaison with site education officers, with parent helpers and with coach firms have all been covered previously. These days risk assessments are often provided by the sites themselves but a preliminary visit is still important to take account of any changes for which the party leader needs to be prepared.
