Who am I?

Having trained as a secondary teacher I began my career in a large comprehensive school in North West Kent where I helped to introduce a new integrated Humanities syllabus. From there I went on to become warden of the local teachers' centre which became the foundation of my work with primary schools.

In 1979 I was appointed director of the Devon Schools' Museum Service and in 1987 became principal of Devon's Learning Resource Services with a co-ordinating role across the curriculum. In 1991 I took a sabbatical year to work towards an MEd at the then Rolle College and in the following year became a lecturer in Education at Exeter University, teaching on both the BA (primary) and PGCE (secondary) courses. During this time I set up my own educational consultancy, developing a range of computer software published under the pseudonym Pen & Think. In 1999 I became a part-time lecturer with the University of Plymouth and since 2001 have been subject leader in history within the Faculty of Education.
